What is Nikkei Nation?
With traditional Japanese American newspapers facing a bleak future, a new online news source has recently begun operation: NikkeiNation.net. Founded by Editor-in-Chief and Publisher George Toshio Johnston and Associate Publisher Susan Yokoyama, Nikkei Nation aims to provide news of interest to the many Nikkei or Japanese American communities across the United States.
Among the objectives of Nikkei Nation: providing important news and information necessary to build and maintain the Japanese American community; and grow cultural and business ties within the North American Nikkei population, which is unique among the various Asian American groups in that the majority of the more than one million comprising this demographic were born and raised in the U.S. and use English as the primary language.
Nikkei Nation will be supported by a combination of subscriptions and advertising. NikkeiNation.net will be updated Monday-Friday and will take full advantage of the inherent speed, reach and potential offered by the World Wide Web.
George Toshio Johnston, Nikkei Nation’s editor-in-chief and publisher, is a professional journalist with more than 20 years of experience in both print and online journalism.
