| | | NORWALK JUDO DOJO HOSTING 80TH ANNI TOURNEY | | March 30, 2012 | | NORWALK, Calif. — A judo tournament marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Norwalk Judo Dojo will take place beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 1 at John Glenn High School.
It will be the first tournament to be hosted by Norwalk Judo Dojo since 1986. Norwalk is one of Southern California’s few remaining original judo dojos from before World War II.
At noon there will be a Ni Gake (slaughterline), in which Go-Dan head sensei Tokuzo Takahashi will take on 10 other sho-dan (black belt judoka) in succession.
Competitors from Arizona and Nevada, as well as California cities such as Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, Fresno, Bakersfield and San Diego will participate.
The tournament is a memorial to Shigeo Tashima, who was head instructor of Norwalk from after the war until the late 1980's. His quality judo, teaching and character left a lasting impact on Southern California Judo.
John Glenn High School is located at 13520 Shoemaker Ave, Norwalk, Calif., 90650. For more information, call Alex Fukuma at (562) 882-6255.
